Know What Counts—and What Doesn’t
The ability of Solomon to know the right from wrong made it possible for him to excel in life. This is what is called Discerning heart: ability to know and do what is right that will please God no matter whose ox is gored.
No wonder the word of God in Philippians 3:8 says:
Everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
Have you noticed how easily you can lose your joy over some little thing? It’s usually the small irritations that cause people to lose their joy and happiness. Somebody cuts you off in the middle of the road when you’re trying to make a turn, and you lose your happiness. You’re having challenges with your shoes/hair in the morning when you are getting late to work or the clothes you put on don’t fit anymore, and you lose your happiness. Or your daughter/son is not paying attention to your directive.
It’s the little things that sometimes affect us the most, yet they don’t really matter.
Paul says in Philippians 3:7, I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done
There was a time in my life: my greatest desire is to do things that would make me be popular and acceptable. I was a man-pleaser. I later realized that no matter what I do, some people would not like me and efforts to please such people are wasted efforts. Hence I decided to do what is right by pleasing God. Now, I have peace, joy, and relaxation.
Let me ask you: What was the most important thing to you before you began following Jesus Christ? Work? Career? Making money? Party? Traveling? Relaxation? Maybe it was getting a date. Maybe it was being popular. Maybe it was having security or being famous. Paul says all those things don’t matter anymore compared to the joy of knowing Jesus.
You have to ask yourself about everything: How much will this matter in 100 years? How much of what I’m worrying about right now is going to matter tomorrow? It’s probably not going to matter tomorrow, much less for eternity. You can choose to live in light of eternity: “Everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8)
Every day when you get up, remind yourself what counts—and what doesn’t. By doing so, you will begin to see a positive turnaround in your situations and circumstances.
Three Other Things:
- Life is principled-based and principled-driven There are Divine and Natural Laws that must be understood and diligently followed for different aspects of our life events in order to fulfill destiny either in business, career, longevity, prosperity, breakthrough, finance and ministry. Different laws and principles, drive each aspect of our life. If you miss such either as a result of ignorance, lack of guidance or a mentor or willful disobedience to this law, or principle, that aspect of life will suffer no matter how much you pray or fast or go to church. You cannot be broken principles and be claiming promises. It will not work. Be wise.
- Sacrificial seed offering of $9.00, $18.00 or $27.00 for September is still on. You will make three prayer requests to God to accomplish your seed. You can sow for your children. In October, it will be $10, $20 or $30. Same in November and December. Today is 29th day of the month and we have one day to go: for someone here this morning, something you have been struggling for, concern for or waiting for will become a major testimony for you in the next 24 hours.
- Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary for daddy and Mummy Odebiyi. May you continue to enjoying peace like a river in your life and family.
