The Spirit of Lying
Isaiah 1:19-20 says
19: Many people get so accustomed to lying that they do so even when there is no clear reason or purpose. I once shared the story of a staff when I was working in a bank. This man could lie with ease even when there was no reason for it. As a Christian, do you lie with ease?
Revelation 21:8 says but the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake, which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. You could see that liars and murderers are in the same category. John 8:44 says Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and he father of it.
As a child of God, do you lie? You need to repent today if you want to live a life of honesty and integrity. Denial may continue to prolong your journey to greatness.
From clinical point of view, these are some of the reasons why people could lie:
▪The lie does matter. To them while others may think the issue is inconsequential but to a liar, it is critically important.
▪Liars feel that when they tell the truth, they give up control. People tell lies because they are trying to control a situation and exert influence toward getting the decisions or reactions they want. On Friday, a documentary on Trump titled All The President’s Lies was relayed on CNN. I am sure, his children may not like it!
▪They don’t want to disappoint others. It may shock you that people who tell lie after lie are often worried about losing the respect of those around them. They want you to like them, they want to impress others and to be valued. They worried that the truth might lead you to reject or shame them. People who consistently lying may be suffering from low self-esteem. They lie to cover their weaknesses.
▪Lies snowball: A chronic liar will not admit to any single lie. Why? To them, admitting to a lie once may make people distrust them
▪To a liar, it’s not a lie to them. Repetitive liars feel so much pressure and at times their memory becomes simply unreliable. Because their memory has been overwhelmingly stressed, they create alternate world in their head, one that conforms to their moment-by-moment beliefs and needs.
▪They want it to be true. The liar might want their lie to be true so badly that their desire and needs again ever whelmed their instinct to tell the truth.
To help such a person to diffuse their ‘make-believe-truth’ ask: why is this situation so important to you or why do you need me to see this the same way you do. Lie is destructive and a sign of lack of integrity.
Church, grace to live a righteous, honest and life of integrity God will release unto us and we will continue to please Him on daily basis.
One Other Thing…
Whatever He Asks You To Do, Do It (John 2:5).
When you’re enjoined to pay special seed of $12 or its multiples in December, it may not make sense but when you try it and doors begin to be opened for you from unexpected sources, it will dawn on you that God honors those that have faith in Him.
It doesn’t make sense if your income is $2,000.00 and God commands you to pay tithe of $200.00 out of it, and you obey. It is when you begin to receive favor from unexpected sources that you will understand the benefits of obedience you have missed in the past. Never doubt God instead whatever He asks you to do, do it (John 2:5). That’s the secret of overcomers in the Kingdom of God and an attribute of integrity/honesty..
